How can you make sure you have reliable broadband?

Many companies choose their broadband based on speed of connectivity, however, once the broadband is in place, it might not be performing at the quality and speed that you expect or need. The majority of problems that arise on broadband networks are caused by the router, and this is an area where we can definitely help.

We can check the router log in order to view and analyse important network information and determine whether or not the router is performing to its best. All routers will provide you with two main fields of useful information :

  • The amount of signal lost
  • The volume/loudness of the signal (signal strength)

From this information we can gauge the speed at which your network is actually running. We’ll also use a number of networking tools that will calculate how fast the network is actually running in comparison to the speed that was promised.

There are a number of different ways in which we then help speed up the network connection :

  • Upgrade hardware ~ old computers may be adding to the slowness of the network
  • Install a faster browser ~ using old browser editions can cause slow loading of pages
  • Ensure that the router is secure ~ often people forget to set a wireless key on their router
  • Replace the router itself ~ it may be the case that the current router is fairly old and effectively past its ‘sell-by date’

After these steps are completed you shou.d see a significant imporvement, with the network running at its optimum speed.
